Apple Upgrades The MacBook Pro, Releases M2 Pro & M2 Max

According to countless reports, Apple had planned to release the first upgraded MacBook Pro around a year after its initial introduction. However, things didn't develop as the fall 2022 appointment date had intended – with multiple factors leading to delays. Now, Apple has announced the revised versions of the MacBook Pro 14"/16" – and as expected, most changes are cosmetic. After all, too much can't change after only 15 months on the market. Despite this, the upgrade was an important one – bringing not only more computing power but also graphical power. Additionally, Apple upgraded the devices' HDMI ports to HDMI 2.1 standard.

M2 Pro & M2 Max
A first overview of the M2 was already available past Summer when Apple released the MacBook Air and MacBook Pro 13" with the standard M2. The MacBook Pro 14" and 16" models come with improved performance in the form of the M2 Pro and M2 Max chips.

Comparison – All 3 M2 Chips
M2 M2 Pro M2 Max
Cores CPU 8 10 or 12 12
Cores GPU 8 19 38

The MacBook Pro offers up to 96 GB of "unified memory" – a combination of RAM and graphic memory. Apple indicates a battery life of up to 22 hours – the best of any Apple notebook.

Prices & Availability (Store: )
In the US, entry prices for the MacBook Pro 14" and 16" have remained the same, US$1,999 and US$2,499. Customers will receive the computers with more cores and the new M2 Pro processor in its basic configuration. Deliveries should begin on the 24th of January – but as is always the case after an Apple release, they will likely quickly increase. The new devices are available for immediate preorder.
