Safari 15 for macOS Big Sur And Catalina

Normally, every major iOS and macOS update comes with a new version of Apple's own browser Safari. Since the respective macOS updates are usually released weeks after the iOS update, Apple often releases the Safari version for the Mac directly with the iOS release. This year it's going to be the same way. When macOS 12 Monterey is released sometime in October or November, Safari 15 will already be included. However, said update is not only ready for the upcoming system, the two direct predecessors also get all the improvements.

Safari 15: Tab groups, tab colors, compact mode, https preference.
As of now, Safari 15 for macOS 11 Big Sur as well as macOS 10.15 Catalina can be downloaded via the "software update" in Catalina's and Big Sur'S system preferences. The improvements are already well known and were eagerly discussed during the beta phase. For example, Safari will offer tab groups to save tabs in and use them across devices. In addition, tabs are oriented to the color of the respective web page to provide a better overview. If you want to show a bit more of a web page on the display, you can use the "Compact" option. If available, Safari automatically transfers web pages to https instead of http. The update description also refers to a continuously updated support document, which lists the security improvements of all updates.

Safari for iOS and macOS: Reversing course during beta.
The example of Safari's redesigned interface shows that Apple certainly takes beta feedback to heart. The feedback on the table bar at the bottom of the display was so uniformly negative that Apple reversed the changes. On the Mac, however, the integration of the tab and search bar caused protests - Apple also said goodbye to this functionality and moved the option to the application settings instead.
