Video: Classical Musicians Try Out The AirPods Max

There have been quite a few reviews of the AirPods Max over the last few months. The US$549 headphones have to have been tested by thousands of audiophiles at this point. Even though the headphones haven't been entirely free of issues – for example, the standby mode uses too much batter, the AirPods Max have certainly not been lacking in praise. On the other hand, the high price has provoked some discussion, although the audio quality is truly top-notch. But what do professional classical musicians think of the headphones? AppleInsider filmed a video with three experienced
orchestra musicians to answer this question.

Test With Favorite Pieces
Three professional musicians of Imperial Symphony in Lakeland, Florida, were told to pick out two of their favorite music pieces – works which they are exceptionally well-acquainted with, to test the AirPods Max with. Whitney Robles decided upon "Prélude à l’après-midi d’un faune" by Claude Debussy and "The Planets Suite: Jupiter" from Gustav Holst. She was especially impressed by the rich detail and breadth of the audio, ranging from the deepest bass to the highest-pitched tones. Lorenzo Sanchez tried out the AirPods Max with a string quartet by Dimitri Shostakovich and a symphony by William Grant Still. Lorenzo was equally impressed, emphasizing the clarity of the audio, although he still prefers the EQ feature of his Sony WH-1000XM4 headphones.

Praise For The "Live Feeling"
Jennifer Stahl chose "Fanfare for the Common Man" by Aaron Copland who described feeling as if she were standing in the middle of a stage surrounded by musicians on all sides. The "live feeling" was also stressed by Whitney Robles, who sees the headphones as a chance to experience that "live concert feeling" despite lockdowns due to the coronavirus in many parts of the world. Jennifer Stahl also added that she initially thought the price to be far too high – although her opinion changed after trying them on. According to her, she'd listen to music much more often at home if she had a pair of AirPods Max. In the event that she does end up trying to order a pair, there's, unfortunately, a 3-week wait on shipping due to high demand.
