iPad Pro & Problems with iPadOS 15.0.2: Update Failing For Some

Apple surprisingly released iOS and iPadOS 15.0.2 this week - the update was not preceded by beta tests. The update addresses a number of bugs and also resolves a security issue: According to Apple, there has been an exploit, which had already been used. In view of this, it seems to make a lot of sense to update promptly. However, this advice does not work for some owners of different iPad Pro models. They do not succeed in installing iPadOS 15.0.2 or only after several attempts. For those affected, this is quite annoying, since the previous version already has this problem.

Update on iPad Pro fails
For the vast majority of users, updating to iOS or iPadOS 15.0.2 is not accompanied by any difficulties. However, those who have an iPad Pro may have a different experience: In some forums, including the Apple Discussions, users report problems with the installation. Although the update is downloaded, it takes an unusually long time to check it, until an error message finally informs about the failed update. Particularly bitter for those affected: The behavior already occured with iPadOS 15.0.1 and includes the most recent models of the iPad Pro. It also does not seem to matter how the update is applied: Over-the-air updates are just as affected as downloads via the Finder or iTunes.

No improvement in sight
Reliable workarounds are currently not yet available. Some of those affected performed a backup and then set their devices to DFU mode to install the update in this way. However, this does not work for all users. For some users, deactivating the code lock for a short time provided a remedy. According to initial feedback, the beta of iPadOS 15.1 does not bring any improvement: Users who have been affected by the bug so far also have difficulties installing this version.
